Royal Burgh Standard Bearer
SELKIRK’S young man of the year is Scott Hermiston who emerged as Royal Burgh Standard Bearer on Friday, 28th April from the doors of the Selkirk Town Hall to a tumultuous applause from the hundreds who were gathered in the Market Place to see who the Common Riding Trust had named as this year’s choice.
Scott will be supported by his four young Attendants, Alistair Craig, Rory Monks, Scott Rodgerson and Graham Lambie and this group of young men will represent the Royal and Ancient Burgh at festivals and other Common Ridings across the Borders all summer.
Scott has chosen as his Common Riding colours, dark blue, white and lilac and rosettes bearing these colours alongside the Selkirk colours of true blue and scarlet will be available shortly from the usual outlets.
His ball partner, dancing the Standard Bearers’ reel and accompanying the Selkirk Standard Bearer to social events during the summer is Elizabeth Morrison. The Standard Bearer has worked as events sales manager at Crieff Hydro for the past three years and is due to take up a similar post in the south of England once his duties as Selkirk’s representative are over in August.
